FEATURED ARTIST: WILLIAM SMITH JR
William Smith Jr. has been painting for a long time, but he didn’t start out by painting burlesque performers. The paintings shown here are a set of four he did about burlesque. Currently, he does landscapes, and has done a Mardi Gras series.
From Will’s web site: “Originally from Natchez, Mississippi, but since 1999 living and working as an artist and designer in New Orleans, Louisiana, Will had found that New Orleans is the perfect climate for him to express and use his full range of talents through the architecture, history and artistic phenomenon that is found in New Orleans. Well experienced in a breadth of media, Will is pleased to announce his capabilities now exceed the limitations of purple crayon.”
“Call Will anytime to find out about his anual Off-White Linen Night or weekly Drink 'N Draw.”

Editor’s Note: When I saw this painting on his website of Madame Mystere, I thought Mr. Smith was the artist she spoke of in her Scene Diva feature this issue (read that interview here). But alas, the mystery remains unsolved, because Mystere says his is not the painting she saw. Imitation is certainly the sincerest form of flattery, but whatever painter painted this same photo of Hampton van Meter’s she saw at Jackson Square, it remains a mystery...
