Our Scene Diva profile story each month is about a prominent burlesque performer. This month’s “Scene Diva” is the beautiful Bella Blue, an energetic superstar who has been involved in local burlesque for several years. Bella can be seen everywhere around town and is in high demand around the country. Madame Blue is also a burlesque instructor as well as a professional model. With such a variety of great skills, Bella might as well be a Prophet of Burlesque, she’s so lucrative. Does she ever slow down? We hope not. Updated
Feelin’ Jazz is a profile on one of New Orleans’s hippest venues, Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse. Irvin and his manager Laura Bell have been very helpful in support of our publication, and we feel likewise. We love being immersed in the warm jazz and smooth atmosphere of this elegant throwback to the classy music clubs of yesteryear. Doesn’t hurt a bit that it’s located right inside the beautiful Royal Sonesta Hotel in the heart of Bourbon Street.
Spotlight Girl shows off a burlesque dancer up close and personal, so you can get to know who those ladies in the light really are. Since some of you like a great personality and some like good looks, we picked someone sure to give you a full dose of each. This month our Spotlight Girl is Lana Allure of Bustout Burlesque. At five feet one and three-quarter inches of pure dynamite, she’s much more of a knock out than the average man can handle. Updated
Q and A: Rick Delaup of the New Orleans Burlesque Festival is a short interview about the Burlesque Fest coming up soon. Make plans to attend this prestigious event! Updated
Ask Miss Scarlet is a column written by our resident relationship and dating specialist. Miss Scarlet has a BA from UNO in Human Behavior and Sexuality and then went on to The University of Texas to pursue her graduate degree in Social Work. As a complicated woman herself, she’s even a bit more of an expert in the area. Miss Scarlet has counseled hundreds of people all over the country and is now back home in New Orleans, a town, she thinks, is the best place anyone could ever call home.
Lanie’s Place is a fun insider column written by our ingenue-about-town, Lanie Lamarre. You never know where her life will lead, whether it’s a last minute shopping escapade while on a sugar high, or an unrequited uptown romance with Drew Brees. As long as I can catch up with her each month, you’ll get an interesting column to read.
From the Orchestra: Music covers the music scene in burlesque, various musicians in bands and everything else we can think of that’s music related. This issue features an article by DJ Sharky von Tiki, who DJ’s for burlesque troupes - most recently Slow Burn Burlesque. Ronnie Magri, a burlesque musician from the old days, is featured, along with music samples from his burlesque music CD. (Ronnie’s song, “Egyptian Fantasy” is playing on this page load if your browser is mp3 compatible.) Updated
We’ve got art and fiction as well. Hope is a short little noir story that asks the question of anyone who’s ever been in a relationship, “Just how sure are you when you go out of town that things remain secure on the home front?” Our artwork includes an illustration by Ben Passmore every bit as sinister as the story it illustrates.
If you’re wondering who shot the photograph of the Girl in the Martini Glass for our Table of Contents page, check out our photo story Martini Avenue featuring the work of Florida-based photographer Al Abbazia.
Our News section features local and world news about burlesque, including a newsfeed you can follow for more burlesque news from around the world. If you have local burlesque news for us, please let us know so we can personally report on it. We have a section called Closers, which is there to settle you down with fun stuff from the net, humor and miscellaneous bits.
