We were planning on getting there at 3 pm. Is that OK with the flow of your process? Do you have a program set up?

We will have picket signs and try to gather together initially in one spot. If you would like me or someone to say a few words and show the support of the NOLA Burlesque Community, would be happy to do that as well. Have you gotten response from the TV stations and press, and do u think letting them know the show girls will be there will help get more exposure for your cause? I have some connections I can alert.

Here to help,

- Jeff

We're going to try very hard to begin at 1 pm, so I don't know if we'll still be having the actual rally at 3 pm, although I am sure there will still be people around... and the loveliness of Burlesque is a welcome sight at any time, and under any circumstances.

We've been pestering press & feel very optimistic about the media coverage situation, although we always appreciate anything people want to do. After the programmed speakers, there will be an "open mic" component during which you'd be welcome to speak.

Looking forward to seeing y'all there!

EARLIER FRIDAY...

HERE’S A COPY OF AN EMAIL WE SENT TO THE PROTEST ORGANIZERS AND THEIR ENTHUSIASTIC RESPONSE. - Editor

Dear BP Oil Protest Organizers:

A bunch of us in the burlesque community want to come down to support your BP Oil Protest. Our group will be present Sunday. We will have picket signs and some of our beautiful performers will even be dressed in tasteful burlesque outfits. Many of us have already signed up for other of the BP oil cleanup efforts.

In particular, hoping our colorful group of performers and burlesque fans can help attract press attention to this worthy cause. New Orleans is a beautifully diverse city with personality and value unlike any other and deserves to be cherished.

Please send me a press release or specific update information so I can spread it around to our thousands of fans and readers.

Wonderful, thanks so much! Looking forward to seeing y'all there.

The protest is going to be on the Decatur St. side of Jackson Square, at the big set of circular steps there on Decatur. Attached are our flyer and press release; you can find those in additional formats & more info on our website, http://murderedgulf.wordpress.com

You're welcome to use as much or as little of this as you want, of course, but here is our list of demands we are making of the federal government:

We demand the Federal Governement intervene immediately to stop the BP Oil Flood and:

1. Declare the BP Oil Flood a national disaster so that Louisiana can finally begin getting federal assistance.

2. Stop BP’s use of “Corexit” and other chemical dispersants that present significant danger to health and safety.

3. Under a state of emergency, employ all resources (including Navy) of the government at every level – Federal, State, local, and parish — to defend our coast, our livelihoods, and our culture.

4. Suspend all BP contracts by means of the EPA’s discretionary debarment act and seize all of BP’s assets, including BP Atlantis and other operational offshore rigs, to assure that all costs of cleanup and remediation are covered.

5. Strongly enforce all regulations for workplace health and safety: Cleanup crews must be supplied with and allowed to use full-face respirators, not paper masks.

6. Undertake immediate, full, and ongoing 3rd-party verified air-quality and toxicity testing in all affected areas, including New Orleans, and objective close monitoring of the oil leak to determine the true extent of the catastrophe.

7. End all deepwater offshore oil drilling.

8. Institute a temporary moratorium on non-deepwater offshore drilling (both current and new operations) and require each operation pass a stringent independent safety review before they can resume operation. Those that fail inspection stay shut down and are heavily fined until they comply or are debared.

9. Keep all lawsuits related to the BP Oil Flood and its aftermath in Louisiana, and instruct the DOJ and States’ Attorney General to hold BP, Halliburton and Transocean accountable to the furthest extent possible under the law.

10. Found a two-decade TVA-Style Gulf Coast Authority that rebuilds sea walls, levees, coastlines, and wetlands, with a dedicated fund for fishermen and related industries to provide economic relief for those put out of work because of the disaster.

Stay tuned here and to our Facebook page for updates.
