Q and A: Rick Delaup

Rick Delaup is the producer of the New Orleans Burlesque Fest, as well as of the local troupe, Bustout Burlesque. Rick answers five questions about his Fest, including why he’s hoping lots of talented burlesque performers sign up to compete for the title of “Queen of Burlesque.” The 2nd New Orleans Burlesque Fest on September 17, 18 and 19th will take place at Harrah’s and is gearing up to be lots of fun.

Ask Miss Scarlet

Ask Miss Scarlet is a dating and relationship advice column written by our resident relationship and dating specialist. Miss Scarlet earned a BA from UNO in Human Behavior and Sexuality, then went on to the University of Texas to pursue her graduate degree in Social Work. As a complicated woman herself, we’d say she’s even a bit more expert in the area. Miss Scarlet has counseled hundreds of people all over the country and is now back home in New Orleans, a town she thinks is the best place anyone could ever call home.

Lanie’s Place

Burlesque Scene’s ingenue sophisticate, Lanie Lamarre, journals her out-on-the-town adventures. Lanie’s Place is a fun insider column written by our ingenue-about-town, Lanie Lamarre. You never know where her life will lead, whether it’s a last minute shopping escapade while on a sugar high, or an unrequited uptown romance with Drew Brees.

From the Orchestra: Music

Ahh, the music of burlesque. It can be retro, rat pack, rock and roll, bump and grind, or old time, and always full of surprises. This month we asked Sharky von Tiki, well known local DJ for many local troupes, recently for Slow Burn Burlesque, to tell us how to pick a great burlesque song. Note that Sharky is also a talented photographer with Black Sails Photography and some of his photos appear in this issue.
